Mind Over Muscle, Use Your Mental Capacity to Gain Muscle Mass

We’ve all heardWalk on Water about the placebo effect, in the placebo effect, basically someone is ailing of something, at which time they are given a sugar pill or an injection of some “medicine.” Soon after the “medical dosage,” the patient actually receives the intended benefit of the “medicine.”

The active ingredient here is that the patient’s belief. They actually thought they were getting the medicine and had full faith that they were going to be healed, cured, or set at ease because of it. Regardless of what was put in the patient’s body, the brain was told, by the mind, that it was going to work. It was basically the person’s faith in the medicine that cured them. Even Jesus Christ said that when you believe in something with full faith, you can move mountains. His disciple Peter even walked on water because of his faith.

Mind Over Muscle and The Placebo Effect

So how does the placebo effect relate to building muscle? It has a lot more to do with it than you might think, especially when you add supplements. Everything that occurs within the body must start or be allowed to continue in the brain, and you can control your brain with your thoughts. It goes like this:

Our thoughts directly, or indirectly, control our brains, and your brain directly controls your body, your body gains muscle, if the brain lets it.

Just as someone believes that a sugar pill can heal them, they are right, it can and usually does. Also, just as they believe that supplements can help them build muscle, it can and usually does, but more often it’s not the supplement that’s really building the muscle. It’s their mind communicating to their brain, “This supplement works. I AM going to gain muscle with this stuff, the science proves it.”

When this happens, your mind is telling your brain what’s going to happen, and your brain does all it can to make it happen. Guess what, your brain is in charge of gaining muscle, if it wants too, you will gain muscle.

Take Advantage of It:

You don’t have to dump a gallon of overpriced powder from a fancy looking, expensive, half full supplement down your throat. All you have to do is believe in your body and mind’s ability to create muscle. The placebo effect usually only works when you don’t really know what you are getting is fake, but you can use the underlying principals to your advantage.

The major premise of the placebo effect is that you KNEW something would work. You would be limitless if you could KNOW that you would gain muscle whenever you did something you were supposed to. You can know this, you just have to choose to do so. Here are a few things you can do to put your mind over muscle and use your mind’s ability to build muscle:

1. Before your workout: Know that the workout you’re about to do will add another layer of ripped, strong, solid muscle.

2. While working out: Know that the lift you are doing IS building huge amounts of muscle.

3. After your workout: You guessed it, feel good, knowing that you just sparked incredible growth in the worked muscles. Also, look forward to your next workout, knowing that it will also build even more muscle.

Think about how much muscle you actually want to build and see it in your mind. With everything you do, keep that mental picture in mind. With every bite of food, think about how it’s building muscle, with every minute of extra sleep think about how much more your body is recovered. Never doubt yourself, and never think that what you are doing isn’t working.

Building muscle is a physical thing, but it can also be a mental thing. Your brain does what its told, and your mind is telling it what to do, whether you know it or not. Always give it instructions to continuously build muscle. Tell yourself that you ARE gaining tremendous amounts of muscle mass, and prepare to be shocked!
