No Matter Your Genetics, Current Build, or Age...

YOU WILL GAIN MUSCLE

From The Desk of Trent Newton:

Dear Friend,

Let me see if I can guess why you are here today…

You’re here because you’re frustrated with a lack of muscle gains EVEN though you are doing EVERYTHING EVERYONE says you should be doing.

You’ve trained like they say to train. You’ve eaten like they say to eat.  You’ve spent half your paycheck on the supplements they say you need.

And all your efforts have been met with minimal or even no muscle gains whatsoever.

You feel like you must be missing something.

So, you’re here searching for the reason you struggle so much with putting on quality muscle-weight.

Do I have it right?   I thought I might I was making a pretty educated guess.

My name is Trent Newton and I’m a pretty well-known regional personal trainer and I have guys just like you seeking my help every single day

I’ve also experienced  the same frustrations you are experiencing right now.

Believe it or not, I graduated high school at a whopping 119 lbs.  My prom date outweighed me. (Not a joke, and not by just a couple of pounds).

It was not a good time in my life.

I wanted to gain muscle-weight bad. Scratch that, I needed to gain muscle  because I was a pathetic scrawny runt. Even my mom felt sorry for me, she bought me all sorts of books and even shelled out cash for all the supplements I thought I needed.

I worked my butt off trying to get some muscle, any muscle, to stick to my bony frame.

I was warrior in the gym. I was a bottomless pit of healthy eating in the kitchen.

And I got the same results  you have… Virtually no muscle mass gains.

Now, this isn’t a page to cry about how unfair the muscle-building game can be. Just like life in general, it is unfair.

Some jerks  seem to put slabs of  mass on by  just by driving past a gym. Other more deserving guys, guys like you and I, can make dedicated muscle building efforts and end up empty in the results department.

If you want to moan, whine and cry about the injustice of it all, go start a thread on a bodybuilding board.

I don’t mean to sound harsh or unsympathetic here.  But life is short, time is valuable.

This page is about answers and, more importantly, solutions.

You see, there actually is a reason you struggle so much to build muscle.

And there is a solution, a way to turn it around so that you become one of those “jerks” who put muscle on by virtually snapping your fingers.

I discovered the reason all my muscle building efforts went unrewarded.

And I can GUARANTEE you it is the same reason you are having so much trouble getting the body you want.

The reason I couldn’t gain muscle mass regardless of what I tried? My mind was working against all my efforts to put muscle on.

That’s right.  My mind was actually sabotaging my muscle building plans.

Every set I pushed through, every time I struggled to down yet another protein shake?  Those efforts were all for naught simply because my mind was not on board with my muscle building plans.

Ever feel like there is some force out there working just as hard to keep you skinny and weak as you are working to build muscle and strength?

Guess why you feel that way?  Because there is such a force -- a powerful force that exists between your ears.

Your mind is determined
to keep you the skinny guy you are
and unless you change it,
IT IS GOING TO WIN.

Unless you convince your mind, unless you reprogram it to work for your muscle building goals instead of against them, you should stop expecting to gain significant muscle mass.

You should give up on your bodybuilding goals and move onto something else.

Again, I hate to sound harsh, but I have to keep it real and that is the reality you are facing.

Don’t believe me?  Think your mind can’t possibly be what is holding you back?

Good.

Skepticism is a necessary characteristic if you expect to succeed in bodybuilding.

(Don’t you wish you’d employed some good old fashioned skepticism instead of parting with half a car payment for that last supplement you thought was the answer?)

Really, I understand that it is a difficult concept to grasp.  But if you stick with me for a few minutes...

I am going to prove to you that without teaching your mind how to build muscle, you are NOT doing all you can to build muscle.

You are going to find out:

  • How and why your mind can work to work keep you from gaining muscle mass regardless of what you are doing in the gym and the kitchen.

  • Exactly why it is that some people put on muscle quickly and easily (these “fast gainers” are rare but they do exist) while the majority of us struggle with the goal.  The reason is going to shock you.

  • The three key  factors that must be present to maximize your muscle gaining ability (two of them you already know, the third one is the one that virtually no one knows about or understands – Your mind).

And, no, I’m not going
to leave you hanging.

I’m not going to just tell you why you struggle so much to gain muscle.  I am going to tell you exactly how you can turn it around.

I am going to tell you exactly how you can build muscle. Lots of muscle.

Before we get into that, I want you to get to know me a little better.  I want you to understand where I came from, what I went through and how I got to where I am today.

I want you to fully appreciate how getting the Mental Edge completely  transformed my life and how it has the power to do the same for you just as it has for these guys…

"Where Have You Been All My Life?"

"Trent, Where have you been all my life?

Seriously though, I really wish I had found your program years ago.

I was the skinny, nerdy guy in high school, but not now!

I've bulked up and continue to get bigger.

Sorry I didn't include pictures, I keep getting bigger and don't want you to post one of me not at my peak...

You Da Man"

"I Can't Believe It!"

"Man I can't believe what has happened to me lately.

Its crazy because you were right, you said that you can actually feel when your body releases a muscle building wave of power.

I felt it! I feel it everytime I workout now! At first it was kinda freaky, but now I'm used to it and it rocks!

I've gained 18 lbs of muscle this month! I can't wait for next month!

Thank you,"

Now, on to my story…

The Amazing Story of How I Went From Complete Desperation, Complete Lack of Any Muscle and Even Forced Muscle Loss, to Building Muscle When I Want, and How I Want, On Command!

Do you know what desperation feels like?

I do. I felt it for years and years. In high school I tried everything I could to build muscle only to find myself staying the same, getting skinnier, or even getting a little bit of a gut (nothing worse than being bone-skinny with the belly of a pregnant woman).

I thought I was doing everything right.

And now that I’m older and wiser, I can tell you that, while I wasn’t doing everything right, I was doing enough right that I should have seen results.

I just couldn’t understand it. I tried training every way (HIT, slow-lifting, periodization programs, etc.). I drank everything that was hawked in the bodybuilding magazines thinking that some potion from those supplement guys had to be what I was missing.

And I was working hard.

I was in the gym 5 days a week, two hours a day and getting skinnier and skinnier. I didn't know why, and I didn't take the time to find out.

I just thought I needed to work out even more, so I did.

Allow me a quick side-note…

As a practicing trainer, I can tell you the most frustrating mistake to watch young trainers make is the one described above – Increasing your training time to ridiculous levels when you get poor results (overtraining).

It will destroy your body and actually make you skinnier just as it did me.

If you take nothing else away from this page, do take away the fact that you MUST employ an intelligent training and nutrition plan to gain muscle.  A great free site that can get you headed in the right direction is The Build Muscle And Gain Weight Fast Guide.

Understand also, however, that even with solid nutrition and training plans, results can be slow and difficult to attain (or nonexistent) if your mind isn’t on board.

That is what we are discussing here today, getting the Mental Edge. Because when your mind starts working with you instead of against you, you can get some breath-taking results.

The increased training didn't work, in fact it made me weaker!

At Least I Had My Health, I Guess

So, it was off to college for me. I figured I’d have better luck there with the extra time to train and the incredible workout facilities at the school.

I didn’t.

Plus, college was expensive.  I soon couldn’t afford both it and  my growing supplement addiction (don’t ask me why I kept taking them when they had shown me no results).

I had to do something. So I joined the military.

Surely Joining the Military Would Finally Get Me Huge and Shredded Like I’d Always Wanted, Right?

Well, I can tell you my recruiter sure thought it would.  He kept laughing and saying “We’re going to put some meat on you for sure, boy.”

I probably should have been offended by being called a “boy”. But I did have the body of a 12 year old and I was just happy to hear someone assure me my days as the skinny weakling would soon be over.

But those days weren’t over.

I actually LOST weight in basic training!  I graduated at an unimpressive 122-126lbs, depending on how much water I drank that day.

If I turned sideways, I was nearly invisible. I was seriously skinny.

It was the low point of my pathetic muscle building journey.  But I would soon do something very stupid that would blow that low away…

How the frustration of being unable to gain muscle mass nearly killed me.

After Basic Training and Technical School, I was trained to be a Unit Physical Training Instructor. That was a huge accomplishment for me even if I didn't look the part.

Really, how could anyone take me seriously as a PT instructor?

Back at college, I continued my training.  At the gym one day, I ran into a former training partner who had once been nearly as skinny as me but had BLOWN UP since I last saw him.

He was massive, strong, and full of confidence.  I wanted to be like him.
I had to know what he was doing. So I asked.

He told me that he was on this new supplement. I won’t mention the name, but it was a testosterone precursor that was basically one molecule away from being pure testosterone (it has since been banned and is no longer produced).

He told me that once he started poppin’ these pills, he just EXPLODED.

I was hooked. I went straight out and spent $145 on two bottles of the stuff. I mimicked my friend and new role model/advisor in every way.

I ate like he ate, I trained like he trained, and I supplemented like he supplemented.

And it worked! I started gaining muscle mass. I was up to 134lbs in just a few weeks!

Now, understand, I was young and dumb 19 year old. I've learned so much since then. It's EMBARRASSING to tell the rest of this story.

However, I want you to know what happened to me. I know that, right now,  many of you are just as desperate to gain some muscle as I was then. My hope is that this will help someone avoid a similar bout of stupidity.

My friend then told me that he doubled his dosage and that I should too.

I did.

It Almost Killed Me…

For a few days it seemed fine… then it hit me.

The doctor said that what I took, with the amount I took, amounted to pure poison! He told me that the pills I swallowed would have killed a large dog.

The scary and sad thing was…  I knew of a few dogs that actually outweighed me!

The pain was horrific. I couldn’t get out of bed for two days. It felt like I was laying on a bed of nails.  It was months before I fully recovered and felt like myself again.

Amazingly enough though…

That Horrible Pain was the Absolute Best Thing That Could Have Ever Happened to My life (and, as it turned out, for My Quest to Gain Muscle)

The physical pain from the experience was bad.  But it wasn’t anything compared to the humiliation and guilt I felt over my stupidity… that was true pain.

How could I have been stupid enough to take pills I knew nothing about? To risk my life trying to get just a little bigger?

Those are difficult questions to answer.  I know many people couldn’t understand my thinking.  But I’m pretty sure that most reading this page will understand at least somewhat the desperation that led to my poor decision making.

Being the skinny guy sucks. It just does.

I don’t want to sound overly dramatic, but I’ve lived life as the scrawny runt and I’ve now lived it as the ripped, muscular guy.

And the differences? The differences are definitely dramatic.

Living skinny is living your life in the background.

The pretty girls don’t pay any attention to you (unless they are looking for a “friend”, which is ultimately worse than being completely ignored).  Guys walk all over you every chance they get, whether intentionally or unintentionally. After all, what are you going to do about it?

At best you get lost in a crowd… and if you stick your head up you might just get trampled by that crowd.

Now, I know that having a great body, one that you are proud of and one that is absolutely impossible for others to ignore,  isn’t everything in life.

The fact is you can have a good
and happy life being ordinary.

As I lay in bed, my friends and family urgently tried to get me to do just that – settle for ordinary.

Their urgings came out of love.  They were worried about me and my obsession with getting bigger.  And they were right to be concerned. After all, I very nearly killed myself.

I took their message to heart.

I promised them and myself I would never again blindly pursue muscle gains -- I would never again take anything or do anything that I didn’t fully understand.  I would never again put my health at risk.

However, I wasn’t ready to give up on my goal of getting bigger.

I was still determined to stick my head out in this world. I wanted to live large, not ordinary.

As I recovered, I had a lot of time to think.  It was difficult for me to honestly confront myself on the stupidity that led to my near death experience. But I did.

I realized that I had listened to all the wrong people.

I had been listening to the supplement companies and bodybuilding magazines (which are owned and run by the supplement companies to peddle their products).  I listened to “guys at the gym” and even anonymous idiots posting on bodybuilding message boards.

And after all the dollars and effort I put in doing what they told me to do?  I was still skinny and weak (and, as an added insult, my bank account was much smaller… and, oh yeah, I almost died).

So, obviously, I needed to find better sources of muscle building information.

I still felt that I was missing something

I knew there was something I just wasn’t getting, something that was holding me back.  I committed myself to finding whatever that was and turning it around.

I got online and emailed every bodybuilder and muscle building guru whose email addresses I could find.  I wrote them long emails about my sad and desperate story…

And I was blown away by the responses I got.

Not everyone responded, but the ones who did were absolutely incredible.  I owe a lot to guys like Shawn Lebrun andVince Delmonte as well as several others.

There may be some knuckleheads in the online fitness industry but there are also some solid, caring individuals.

It was those caring ones that inspired me to keep going after my dreams but to do so in a smart, natural way.  And, years later after finally reaching my goals and discovering some amazing things on the way, they are the inspiration for me creating this site with the hopes of helping those with struggles similar to mine.

More than inspiration, I got the top techniques for muscle gain.

I thought I knew what I was doing simply because I had been doing a lot in the gym. Trust me, there is a big difference between just doing and doing it right.

When I started doing it right (nutrition and training) I started gaining muscle.
It wasn’t a lot of muscle and it didn’t come quick.  A pound every month or two, a sixteenth inch gain on my biceps.

But I had relaxed my expectations.  I loved the training and just sort of enjoyed the pursuit of muscle.

“So what if my results are slow?  Eventually (someday, hopefully) I’ll reach my goals.”

As much as I repeated the above to myself, as much as I believed it and was proud that I was at least finally putting on some real sustainable muscle and doing it naturally…I couldn’t help feeling incredibly frustrated at times.

It seemed that every week the gym had a newbie walk in and start making eye-popping gains – 10 or 20 lbs. of muscle mass in a couple of months.

I was jealous.  Why not me?  What was wrong with me?

That feeling that I was missing something was gnawing at my gut.  It was driving me crazy. Then I caught a break.

How I discovered the mental key to gaining serious muscle mass for the hardest of hardgainers in the most unlikeliest of places.

Sorry if my story thus far has left you feeling just as depressed and hopeless as I once was… Here’s the happy ending.

My final semester of college I was in a psychology class halfway listening when my professor started getting into psychosomatics (the ability to affect your body with your mind).

It got my attention, suddenly I was all ears.  I immediately started relating the discussion to my muscle building struggles.

As one of my last asks as a scrawny runt of a kid, I timidly approached my professor after class and asked…

“Can you build muscle, or change your body with your mind?"

He said,"Stop breathing,"

I did. He went on to explain that breathing is an automatic function of the body, controlled by the brain, just like building muscle. The difference was I had control over it.

He told me that using the mind to build was muscle was entirely possible but the key was to gain control over it just as I had control over my breathing.

It turned out that psychosomatics was one of my professor’s interests. He directed me to tons of research on the subject.

I was completely hooked. I poured over the research, everything I could get my hands on.  I read and read and read. The research led me to techniques of self-hypnosis that could help re-program the mind.

Within a week I was putting the stuff I learned into practice.

The results were immediate and dramatic.

In short…

I Learned How To Change My Body With My Mind AND I GREW OUT OF MY SKIN!

I gained about 20lbs of solid, shredded muscle in only four weeks.  And people noticed, especially the ladies!

The US Air Force asked me to take a drug test! My superiors thought I was on 'roids! I thought it was hilarious! I knew I was clean, so I wasn’t worried. I took it as a compliment.

A few months after passing that drug test,  I broke the Air Force push up record. Then I broke my own record the next year, and I still own the record!

I ended up being the Fitness Program Manager for the entire base (and now I very much looked the part). I made instructional videos for the Air Force and I also received a Presidential Physical Fitness Award.

Once I knew exactly how to gain muscle the fastest way possible, my life began to change.  It was and continues to be an incredible ride.

Not a day goes by that I’m not thankful that I didn’t give up on my goals, that I didn’t settle for “ordinary”

I’m immensely proud that I overcame so many obstacles and persevered until I finally caught a break and discovered the mind-body connection that changed my life.

Being the “ripped and muscular” guy has definite advantages in life.  Many more than most people imagine.

One of the main reasons guys train is to get the attention of women.  That’s a worthy goal, and it does happen!  It actually shocked me that it happens to such a great degree.

If you’re not all that convinced that women are greatly affected by a man’s physique (as many of them will claim), just wait until you reach your goals.  Your phone will suddenly be buzzing  at all hours with texts and calls from hotties who didn’t even know you were alive when you were sporting the skinny nerd look.

A nice problem to have!

Female attention, however, believe it or not, is actually only a pleasant side effect of getting ripped.

The real advantage is the big picture. It’s the effect your new, impressive physique has on your overall quality of life.

Stay with me here… While the strong physique is only part of being a strong person, it can be an incredible springboard to bettering yourself in ways you never imagined.

People treat the physically strong and beautiful differently.  That’s just a fact. People who once only halfway listened to your ideas and thoughts are suddenly intense listeners. They look to you to lead. Your confidence soars and things start happening.

Doors open.  Socially and financially things just seem to magically get easier.

You are forced to stick your head up, to pursue the large, exciting life you barely dared dream was possible.  And that life becomes possible for the stronger person you become.

It’s a phenomenon that virtually all those who have achieved fast and dramatic physique transformations have experienced.

Everyone (EVERY SINGLE ONE) who I have ever talked to that has made such a transformation has seen their lives improve just as dramatically as their bodies.

In my own case, my life took an amazing and welcome turn.  One second I was graduating and looking at a future in the corporate world.  Not a horrible outlook by any means, but very ordinary and nothing that excited me.

The next second, and this did excite me, I had a long line of struggling skinny guys begging me for the secrets that led to my incredible muscle gains.

If my mental techniques had helped my muscles explode, why couldn’t they do the same for them?

I was more than eager to help. So I decided to become a personal trainer, (and later, a Certified Master Practitioner Personal Trainer).

I not only had the experience and knowledge of how to properly train the body physically, I also knew about the power of the mind, and how to harness and utilize it.

This was my secret weapon.

Not only did I teach them to build muscle physically, I taught them how to use the power of their minds to rapidly multiply those results.

The results were amazing. I became a highly sought after trainer (and an expensive one!) virtually overnight.

The word spread like wildfire. I scraped up enough to open my own gym. I put people on The Mental Edge Muscle Building Program you’ll find below, and you guessed it, they started seeing results in just days.

I’m talking 10 solid pounds of verifiable muscle mass in two weeks for some of them!

And the rest is history. I’ve been helping people just like you build muscle and size for over 8 years now. I’ve loved every minute of it.

Now I want to help you!

Embarrassingly, until recently, all my research and notes on the mental muscle building techniques I discovered have been confined to messy and somewhat illegible notebooks.

It has been a long-time goal to get into a book format that would allow the masses to replicate the results myself and my training clients have experienced.

I feel real guilt that it has taken me this long, that my procrastination has undoubtedly left thousands and thousands of skinny guy aimlessly struggling to build muscle. But all I can do is move forward.
